Bubbles
This is a macro photo of a soap bubble. The coloration comes from a diffused flash directly above the bubble. Seen by many when the Apple iPhone X was released with "planet" wallpapers. The bubble 'walls' are made of a soap-water-soap sandwich. The thickness of each of these layers plays an import role in the colors that are visible. More information available here.
ASM International Domesday
The ASM International Domesday competition happens each year the the Materials Science and Technology Conference. While at the Missouri University of Science and Technology I teamed up with 3 other undergraduate students and one graduate student to compete. We chose to do an investment cast of steel. Starting with a 3D printed model of the dome.
A action image of the SLA plastic dome being coated in sand prior to casting
The final coated dome prior to going into a furnace to melt out the plastic and foam
Pouring molten steel into the shell
The finished dome prior to sandblasting. We came in Second!
Tricopter
This was a personal project that I started coming out of high school. The electronics teacher at the local career center inspired me to begin working on personal projects. The structure of the tricopter was made of plexiglass, wood, and pvc.
Most of the tricopter was help together with zipties. Zipties are much cheaper to replace than other options and have the added benefit of snapping before other, more expensive parts break in the event of a crash.
